Mr President,

On behalf of my delegation, I would like to thank the Delegation of the Kyrgyz Republic, headed by H.E. Mrs. Jyldyz Mambetalieva, Deputy Minister of Justice, for the submission of their national report and their participation in the UPR process.

Indonesia notes with appreciation that, despite the current difficult times in the country, Kyrgyzstan has participated in the UPR process in line with its international human rights obligations. We sincerely hope that national stability can be restored as quickly as possible, thus the enjoyment of human rights of the Kyrgyz people could be further improved.

Mr President,

The Kyrgyz government’s ratification of and commitment to the “New Generation” Programme on the implementation of children’s rights is commendable. We hope that it will continue to have positive impact, particularly on the rights of the country’s street children.  We also urge further cooperation with the international organizations to improve the living conditions and life prospects of Kyrgyzstan’s most vulnerable children.

In relation to women’s rights, Indonesia is encouraged to learn that the Kyrgyz Constitution stipulates equal rights for women and that there has been a substantial increase in the number of women in government posts over past years.

We would, however like to know more about progress on legislation designed to protect Kyrgyz women, particularly relating to the recent pilot programmes in support of the Act on Social and Legal protection against Domestic Violence and also in relation to the impact of the National Council to combat trafficking in persons, especially women.

In conclusion, Mr. President, we would like to express Indonesia’s continuing support to the Government and People of Kyrgyzstan in their efforts to promote and protect human rights, particularly in the current challenging situation in the country.

Thank you.
