Mr President,

On behalf of my delegation, I would like to thank H.E. Mr. Sun Suon dan the delegation of Cambodia, for providing updated information and responses regarding the recommendations made during the Working Group on UPR meeting in December last year.

Indonesia commends the efforts made by the Cambodian Government in strengthening democratic institutions, good governance and the rule of law over the past years.  We acknowledge the important role of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee and the Government’s ongoing efforts to foster an environment of cooperation, transparency and accountability in the country.

The draft anti-corruption law, recently adopted by the National Assembly, symbolizes a very signifanct step forward in Cambodia’s fight against corruption.  As a country also striving for reform and the eradication of corruption, Indonesia lends its full support to the Cambodian Government in this challenging task.

Mr President,

Indonesia also appreciates Cambodia’s efforts to promote the status of women. Combating domestic violence and trafficking in women and children should continue to be an important priority for the Government.

As highlighted in the UPR report, we share the view that wider socio-economic development such as poverty reduction and better access to education and healthcare, need to be addressed by the Cambodian Government.

Furthermore, we sincerely hope that the Government of Cambodia will further enhance and strengthen the work of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Human Rights Commission to effectively promote and protect human rights and fundamental freedoms of the peoples of ASEAN

In conclusion, we would like to express Indonesia’s continued support to the Government and people of Cambodia as they endeavor to implement the UPR recommendations.

Thank you.
