Statement by H.E. Mr. Edi Yusup, Deputy Permanent Representative of Indonesia at the 14th Session of the Working Group on Universal Periodic Review - Consideration of the UPR Report of Czech Republic
October 22, 2012 Posted under Human Rights and Humanitarian Issues
Let me begin by welcoming the delegation of the Czech Republic and thank them for their continued engagement with the UPR process and the comprehensive national report presented here today.
My delegation welcomes the adoption of the Anti Discrimination Act and the National Plan of Action for Inclusive Education. However, we are aware of concerns raised on the actual implementation of the plan, and in a spirit of addressing this gap; my delegation would like to recommend the Government to double its efforts in the comprehensive implementation of the National Plan of Action for Inclusive Education.
We note the adoption of a National Strategy for the Protection of Rights of Child adopted in 2012 and share the need to raise public awareness on violence against children, including sexual violence. We recommend that the Government step up its efforts to ensure the implementation of the First Plan of Action for the National Strategy for the Protection of the Rights of Child 2012 – 2015.
Indonesia notes the Czech Republic’s position on the ratification of the Convention on the Protection on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families however we recommend Czech to reconsider the ratification of the convention in the future.
To conclude, it is our strong belief that the promotion and protection of human rights should be progressive in nature for all countries. Therefore, Indonesia would like to convey its best wishes to the Government of Czech Republic and its people in their continued endeavours in protecting and promoting human rights in the country. I thank you.
