STATEMENT BY DEPUTY PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA TO THE UNITED NATIONS, WTO AND OTHER INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS IN GENEVA
H.E. AMBASSADOR EDI YUSUP
AT THE 27th SPECIAL SESSION
UNCTAD TRADE AND DEVELOPMENT BOARD
GENEVA, 22 MARCH 2013
H.E. Dr. Hamad Bin Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari, Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage of Qatar
Mr. President of Trade and Development Board
Mr. Secretary General of UNCTAD
Let me begin by expressing my sincere appreciation to you, Mr. President, for convening this important meeting.
My delegation would like to align myself with the statements made by Ecuador on behalf of the G77 and China, as well as by Iran on behalf of the Asian Group.
Almost a year ago, the State of Qatar had the honor and the previlege of hosting UNCTAD XIII Conference in Doha and succesfully concluded by the adoption of the Doha Mandate. Through UNCTAD XIII, we are able to preserve the mandates that was agreed in Accra. We also consolidated UNCTAD’s mandate to react quickly in addressing the needs and priorities of developing countries in today’s challenging global economic environment.
In this regard, I would like to seize this opportunity to reiterate the appreciation and gratitude of the Government of Indonesia to the State of Qatar, in particular to the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage, Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari as the President of UNCTAD XIII.
I would like also to commend the Government of Peru, for its generous offer to host the fourteenth conference of UNCTAD to be held in 2016. Peru’s readiness is a clear testimony of its realisation of the strategic importance of the UNCTAD to developing countries in particular to Peru’s development.
In a few moment, we will see the hand over stewardship of the Board from Ambassador Seilenthal to Ambassador Tileuberdi for the second half of the term. On this occasion, allow me to extend our deepest appreciation and sincere thanks to His Excellency Jury Seilenthal for his leadership and excellent work during his tenure.
My appreciation also goes to His Excellency Muktar Tileuberdi, for assuming the chairmanship. I am confident that he will be able to provide the needed strong leadership for us to move forward. He can rest assured of our support and cooperation in his endevour.
Before I conclude, let me reiterate that this year will be an excellent opportunity for us to have more productive deliberations as we will soon engage in a process to prepare the 50th Anniversary of UNCTAD, and to contribute to the review of MDGs as well as the formulation of the post-2015 development agenda.
I thank you Mr. President.
