Statement by the Deputy Permanent Representative of Indonesia, H.E. Edi Yusufat the 18th Session of the Working Group on UPR - Consideration of the UPR Report of Yemen

Mr. President,

On behalf of my delegation, I would like to thank the delegation of Yemen for their comprehensive report. We express our appreciation for the inclusive and collaborative process through which the report was compiled.

My delegation recognizes that despite having undergone a difficult political transition, Yemen has exerted its efforts to ensure that the promotion and protection of human rights remains a key priority in the transitional process. My delegation would like to commend Yemen for these efforts.

We note with appreciation the holding of the first National Human Rights Conference which attested to the intensified efforts made by Yemen to ensure that human rights are upheld promoted and protected. We are pleased to learn that the National Human Rights Institutional Bill has been endorsed and submitted to the parliament and we encourage Yemen to continue its efforts in this regard.

 

Mr. President,

Notwithstanding the many positive achievements, Indonesia believes that there is always room for improvement.

In this regard we recommend the government of Yemen in this regard to continue its efforts in the protect and promote women's rights, including to give due consideration to the application of quota system in all state bodies as put forwarded by the National Conference for Women.

We also reccomend the government to continue its efforts in improving access, enrolment and quality of education in the country, including through the allocation of adequate financial resources.

Finally, my delegation wishes Yemen every success in addressing the remaining human rights challenges in the country. Thank you.
