AMBASSADOR EXTRAORDINARY AND
PLENIPOTENTIARY/ PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA TO THE
UNITED NATIONS,WTO AND OTHER INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS IN GENEVA
H.E. Mr. Dian Triansyah Djani presented his credentials as
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary/Permanent Representative of the
Republic of Indonesia to the United Nations, WTO and Other International
Organizations in Geneva on 6 March 2009.
Mr. Dian Triansyah Djani, received his graduate Degree in
Economics from the University of Indonesia and the Graduate Programme in
Economic Development at Vanderbilt University, USA. He started his career as a
diplomat at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in
1985 and was posted at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Indonesia in
New York in 1991-1994 as well as the Permanent Mission of the Republic of
Indonesia in Geneva in 1997-2001.
He was appointed Director for Multilateral Trade and
Investment in 2002. As Director for Intra-Regional Cooperation for Asia-Pacific
and Africa (2004 - 2005) covering various security, political, social and
economic issues in various regional organization in the Asia Pacific and Africa
region, Mr. Dian Triansyah Djani was influential in promoting APEC cooperation
and paved the way for the New Asian African Strategic Partnership/NAASP. He
also served as Director for ASEAN Economic Cooperation which is responsible for
enhancing ASEAN economic cooperation as well as negotiations on various FTAs with
ASEAN?s dialogue partners.
He was also involved in many other international forums and
meetings, representing Indonesia both at the regional and multilateral level,
such as the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), World Trade Organization (WTO), D8,
G77, G15, ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD),
Asia-Middle East Dialogue (AMED), United Nations General Assembly (UNGA),
UNCTAD, UNDP, Asian-African Summit, and Tokyo International Conference on
African Development (TICAD). He represented Indonesia in many security and
political forum such as the ARF on Maritime Security, Nuclear Disarmament,
Counter Terrorism, etc,. He was also Head of the Indonesian delegation for
various meetings of the ASEAN Nuclear Weapon Free Zone (SEANWFZ) and to the APEC
Counter Terrorism Task Force. He served as member of the Indonesian delegation
on various WTO Conferences in particular on issues related to investment,
government procurement and competition policy. He was also Head of the
Indonesian Delegation at the WTO Committee on Trade and Environment
During his tenure as Director General of ASEAN Cooperation,
a position he held since January 2005 to December 2008, he served as Head of
Delegation to the ASEAN Standing Committee representing Indonesia in many ASEAN
Conferences as well as ASEAN Meetings with its Dialogue Partners. He was
influential in the creation of the ASEAN Community. In 2007, he was also
appointed as the Indonesia’s Representative to the High Level Task Force (HLTF)
and given the mandate to draft the ASEAN Charter, which entered into force on
November 2008.
Currently, Ambassador Djani serves as the Vice President of
the UN Human Rights Council. He was also the President of the UNCTAD Trade and
Development Board for 2009. He is also the co-chair of the Standing Committee
on Stockpile Destruction for the Mine Ban Convention for 2010.
He is a Guest Lecturer at various higher learning
institutions on multilateral negotiations, political and security as well as
international trade/economic issues, both in Indonesia and abroad. Mr. Dian
Triansyah Djani is married to Lista Damayanti Djani and has one son, Panji
Caraka Djani. He is interested in sports and enjoys reading and traveling.
