Human Rights and Humanitarian Issues
By way of General Assembly Resolution 60/251, the Human Rights Council was established on 15 March 2006. The Human Rights Council is an intergovernmental body, comprising 47 states a subsidiary body of the UN General Assembly. Along with the UN Reform as reiterated at the World Summit in 2005, the Council was aimed to replace the UN Commission on Human Rights and improve the effectiveness the UN body tasked to deal with human rights issues, by eradicating the politicking and double standard often associated with issues of human rights.
